WYSO Weekend: August 14, 2016

WYSO Weekend

Thanks for checking out WYSO Weekend! This week we've got dueling politics as the presidential campaigns make their way through the Miami Valley.  We've also got Dayton Youth Radio and our very own Bill Felker with Poor WIll's Almanack.  See full program details below.

  • Both presidential campaigns swept through Ohio and the Miami Valley to some degree this week. GOP Vice-presidential candidate, Indiana Governor Mike Pence was in Moraine on Wednesday, and the Hillary Clinton campaign held a press conference in Dayton earlier that day. We’ve got audio from both events. In the audio, Mayor Whaley speaking on behalf of the Clinton campaign pulled no punches in her speech to a small group of reporters at a union hall on S. Jefferson. The hall serves as the city’s new democratic headquarters and Whaley Served as a super-delegate for Clinton at the 2016 Democratic National Convention last month.

  • Donald Trump’s VP candidate, Mike Pence, spoke to a crowd of about 300 at the Mandalay Banquet Center in Moraine.

  • Former Ohio Governor and Democratic US Senate candidate, Ted Strickland, got some serious blow-back after comments he made about the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. Strickland is now apologizing for suggesting that Scalia’s death was good timing. Statehouse correspondent Andy Chow reports.

  • On Dayton Youth Radio, Ponitz CTC student Mickel Miles says he's concerned about what he sees as a shortage of entertainment options for teenagers in downtown Dayton. Hi story is introduced by Youth Radio Project Manager Basim Blunt:

  • Bill Felker brings clarity to the living world around us in Poor Will's Almanack.
