This weekend is The Great Backyard Bird Count when bird watchers of all ages are counting birds. They are creating a real-time snapshot of where the birds are across the continent. Anyone can participate and it takes as little as 15 minutes on one day…It’s free, fun, and easy—and it helps the birds.
Well, there are many things going on this weekend….
Today at 4 & 8 at Stivers School for the Arts is a modern version of the holiday favorite, The Nutcracker and it is the Urban Nutcracker. A contemporary dance takes place in an urban environment. There is all kind of dancing, including , samba,, hip hop, Chicago stepping, and more. The SMAG Dance Collective take contemporary dance and fuse it with various ethnic and social forms of dance.
Ben Clonch (Guitar, Vocals), Robbie Marion (Fiddle, Vocals), Jon Bauman (Standup Bass, Vocals) and Brendan Moore (Mando, Vocals) share a love for the music of Jerry Garcia. In Yellow Springs-based Blue Moon Soup, they channel bluegrass, folk and psychedelia into a signature sound that they've been honing since 2010. Here they visit the WYSO studios for a live set and to share tracks from their upcoming album, Lonely Mountain.
Blue Moon Soup will release Lonely Mountain on December 24th at Canal Street Tavern. They'll also perform on December 2nd at Blind Bob's on 5th Street.
