Celebrate the kick-off of the London 2012 Olympic Games with the best opening ceremonies party in Dayton! It’s sure to be a “gold medal” night, full of English pub food, drinks, British music, prizes and fun, as you watch the opening of the Summer Games unfold. Who knows, the Queen herself might even make an appearance! This is at the DAI, tonight….7-11pm.
The Dayton Art Institute's superhero summer kicks off today with the opening of You Are My Superhero. This special exhibition explores the tradition of comic book superheros and how contemporary artists are putting their own spin on popular characters.
The exhibition is made up of original art and memorabilia on loan from local comic book shops, private collectors and the artists themselves. Dayton Art Institute associate director Jane Black says she's grateful for the positive and quick response she got when the museum started planning the exhibition.
So many things are going on….can you take a long break??? Now there is a play called Gem of the Ocean. This is one of August Wilson's famed "Pittsburgh Cycle," ten plays about residents of that city's Hill District. It's a mixture of fantasy and harsh reality, as 285-year old Aunt Ester leads a community for whom slavery is an all-too-vivid memory. Visit humanrace theatre.org.
