UD Gets Air Force Research Grant

A research center at the University of Dayton has won a $42.2 million dollar contract from the U.S. Air Force.

The Dayton Daily News reports that the contract awarded to the UD’s Research Institute will maintain 30 existing jobs at the facility.

And another $1.2 million contract from GE Aviation for related research will create as many as five new positions there.

The Air Force contract is for research and development in advanced power and thermal management technologies for hypersonic and long-range aircraft.

Military Families Welcome Heroes Back Home

Last week, in a ceremony at the National Museum of the United State Air force in Dayton Ohio, Senior Airmen Tre Porfirio received the Purple Heart. On Nov. 21 2009 Tre was shot 3 times by Afghan insurgents. Those three bullets have resulted in more than 20 surgeries. Tre's recovery has involved some ground breaking medical techniques. At last night's ceremony Airmen Porfirio talked about his personal fight for life.

Porfirio says, "It's been a battle, lot a help from Community, squadron, my Girl and baby... it makes it easier."

New exhibit highlights "100 Mission Patch"

A new exhibit opened at the National Museum of the United States Air Force Thursday. It's called "100 Missions Up North" and it highlights the stories of airmen who flew over North Vietnam and surrounding countries during the war in Southeast Asia.
