Live on Kaleidoscope: Kris N

Credit Cherry Fullam

Much like this previous release, Lo-fi Movement, Kris N's new album was recorded at home.  Prior to recording the songs that would become Heartscarf, he recorded two other albums worth of material but decided that the current songs were the right ones to release.

Kris N returned to the WYSO studios to perform tracks from Heartscarf live and spoke with Kaleidoscope host Juliet Fromholt about recording in the moment and the idea of the heart scarf, which was conceptualized with visual artist Cherry Fullam.  Heartscarf will be released on June 24th via Poptek Records.

Since their performance with Kelley Deal during Record Store Day, the Buffalo Killers have been busy putting the final touches on their new album, 3.  After the record is released locally in July, the band will embark on a West Coast tour.  Zach Gabbard, Andy Gabbard and Joseph Sebaali braved spring tornados in Southern Ohio to visit the WYSO studios and perform several live tracks as well as preview a song from 3.

The Buffalo Killers will perform at Peach's Grill in Yellow Springs on Friday, May 27th.

Live on Kaleidoscope: Nathan Peters

Nathan Peters returns to the WYSO studios for an update on his latest musical endeavors.  He talks about piecing together songs both for solo projects and with a band and the difference between playing an intimate solo show and playing with a rock band.

Peters' band, Captain of Industry, will be playing a series of reunion shows with Boston's Pretty & Nice, The Receiver and Roley Yuma later this month.

Live on Kaleidoscope: Dan Raridan and the Calientes

Dan Raridan met bandmate Alessandro Cortez at South Park Tavern's open mic night.  Soon they began playing together and recruited Larry Smith on drums.  The trio recently completed an album called Bus comprised of songs mostly written by Dan before the band formed.  Here they perform live in the WYSO studios and talk to Kaleidoscope host Juliet Fromholt about the new album, upcoming gigs and finding musical compatibility as a trio.

Live on Kaleidoscope: Shoot Out the Lights

Josh 'Mudd' Muddiman (vocals, guitar) and Joshua Howard (guitar, vocals) had been playing together for years when they met Matt 'Mook' McCormick (bass, vocals), Elaina Brown (keys, vocals) and Alan Topolski (drums, vocals) and Shoot Out the Lights was born.  The Cincinnati band decided to stick fairly close to home until their self-titled album was released on March 19th.  Now the band is scheduled to be the Artists in Residence at the Southgate House in July and will be doing some regional touring.
