- The American jazz pianist Cecil Taylor is a pioneer of what is called free jazz—music which often discards notated scores and breaks with meter and conventional harmonic progression. Now 87, his first recordings were released in the 1950s. In the late 1960s and early 70s Taylor taught at Antioch College and recordings from his years in Yellow Springs are found in the WYSO archives. Rediscovered Radio producer Dave Barber has the story.
- Jeniffer and Amanda met in the Army. Both experienced set backs then, but today they find strength in their friendship and service. Our Veterans Voices' series continues with Army veteran and Wright State student, Jeniffer Seavey of New Carlisle, and her BFF, Army veteran Amanda Murphy.
- With Thanksgiving Day under their belts and the holiday shopping season officially underway, holiday gift-givers will be out in force in the coming weeks. While some shoppers will likely head to big-box retailers like Target and Walmart, some local business owners are hoping some people will consider shopping small instead. Yesterday was Small Business Saturday, and to talk about it’s origin and its impact we spoke with Holly Allen, the director of marketing for the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce. Small Business Saturday has obviously passed but no doubt, local small business owner will continue to hope for your business through the holiday season.
- Today on Dayton Youth Radio we have a story from Hannah Williams, a student at Tecumseh High School in Medway. She tells us about her brother Wesley who was killed in Afghanistan in 2012.
