Wright State University’s incoming president plans to make financial sustainability one of her top priorities. The school’s board of trustees Monday voted unanimously to elect Dr. Cheryl B. Schrader as Wright State’s seventh president.
Schrader will be the first woman to hold the position in Wright State’s history. She currently serves as chancellor at Missouri University of Science and Technology.
After the vote, Schrader outlined her plans to students and faculty.
“Over the first year, I will focus on a three-fold mission: financial sustainability, administrative transparency and campus conversation," she says.
Schrader takes office at a time of ongoing budget crisis for Wright State, which is on track to overspend its budget this fiscal year by about $40 million.
Officials said last week the budget shortfall may force further program cuts and layoffs in coming months.
The university also lost nearly $1.7 million on its failed attempt to host last September’s presidential debate.
Schrader is expected to take office July 1. She replaces outgoing Wright State president David Hopkins, who is retiring after 10 years.
