What's Great in Dayton: September 9 - 15, 2016

Tonight, Saturday, & Sunday Shakespeare in South Park is doing "As You Like It," a madcap romantic comedy set in the 1920s. Gender reversal of some principal roles will leave you thinking Shakespeare assigned the wrong genders in the first place. Bring your chair or blanket.

At the 2016 Great Wright Brothers Aero Carnival you celebrate the Wright brothers and all things aviation. The event showcases the work of Orville and Wilbur in the development of practical flight and highlights some of the changes that have occurred since then. This is at the Huffman Prairie Flying Field on Saturday, 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

The Jericho Walk to End Hunger is on Saturday at 2:00pm at the Nutter Center Wright State University. They will walk in solidarity with churches, worship centers and organizations around Dayton to bring a voice to the upcoming Presidential Debate around the issue of hunger in our community and our nation. Judy Dodge, Montgomery County Commissioner,  Nichole Schmidt, the Midwest Coordinator Bread for the World and others will participate in this event.

Peace Heroes Walk Around The World is a family-friendly, educational event designed to promote peace literacy which is the art of living peaceably through the stories of peace heroes. A peace hero is often an everyday person who accepts risk and succeeds in making the world a less violent and more just place. The walk is Sunday at 2pm in downtown Dayton at Riverscape.

And then at Riverscape at 3pm, WYSO has partnered with the 21st Century Peace Literacy Foundation to create an event on the 15th anniversary of 9/11. They will honor those who lost their lives and also celebrate the work of "Peace Heroes" in our community. WYSO has chosen artists who are Peace Heroes who promote peace through their music; Rani Arbo & Daisy Mayhem and the fabulous Central State University Gospel Choir. There is no cost and open to the public.
