What's Great in Dayton: September 2 - 8, 2016

Dayton Visual Arts Center (DVAC) is presenting 25 works of art by 25 artists for celebrating its 25th year. The 25 artists came together to create new works in pairs or groups resulting in this groundbreaking exhibition. The opening reception is tonight 6-8 pm and is open to all.

On Saturday you can go into some people’s homes and see their private art collections. This is A Self-Guided Tour of Yellow Springs Private Art Collections. The homes are located all around town, so biking or driving between homes is recommended, rather than walking. The homeowners will be on hand to greet you and answer your questions. And please be sure to make time to visit the Yellow Springs Community Gallery!

The 35th Annual Artistry in Wood Show is Saturday and Sunday. This is a well-established show and an excellent chance to see, show and buy wood art, meet other artisans, get inspired and just have fun. It is now in the Roberts Centre near Wilmington, Ohio.

91%: A Film About Guns in America is a documentary that examines U.S. gun policies with a focus on the background check system. While 91% of Americans are for background checks on all gun sales, Congress fails to close the loophole. Why is that and how does that undermine our public safety? The hour long film will be followed by a discussion afterwards. This is Sunday, at 7:30pm at THE NEON.

Get Out On the Bike Trails! Did you know that there are more than 70 miles of paved trails in Montgomery County? We are part of the nation's largest paved trail network, where you can experience over 300 miles of connected trails! For maps of all the trails and more information, visit Miami Valley Bike Trails.
