What's Great in Dayton: October 28 - November 3 2016

The South Slavic Club of Dayton is presenting a Serbian Folkdance troupe at 8:00 pm, tonight at Bellbrook High School. 25 musicians and dancers, direct from Belgrade will perform folk dances from Serbia and Eastern Europe. Tickets are available for adults and children.

The Fiddler on the Roof is a musical and dramatic tour-de-force that dramatizes historical and deeply personal family circumstances. It has touched audiences for more than 50 years and The Miami Valley Symphony Orchestra with the Dayton Playhouse are doing this at The Dayton Masonic Center, on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

And Then They Came for Me is a unique theatrical experience that is a multimedia play combining videotaped interviews with Holocaust survivors and live actors recreating scenes from their lives during World War II. This breaks new ground being part oral history, part dramatic action, part direct address, part remembrance. It is this weekend at Alter High School.

Put on your dancing shoes and party the night away at CELIA's Sultans of Swing Flapper Ball. Enjoy period literary readings, 3 decades of dance music from the teens through the '30s, on-the-spot dance lessons, a Prohibition-era speakeasy complete with bathtub gin, and a sumptuous flapper buffet. Saturday, 6-10pm, Memorial Hall.

Halloween wouldn't be complete without a family trip downtown for PhilharMonster. Maestro Neal Gittleman is providing the spookiest-sounding tunes. Gasps, giggles, and costumes abound during this afternoon when everyone gets to be just a little bit scared. Before the concert, the DPO will provide activities and treats in the Wintergarden. Sunday at 3:00pm; Schuster Performing Arts Center.

The First Baptist Church in downtown Dayton has a new music director and on Sunday at 4:30 they are having a concert of him and their chancel choir.
