What's Great In Dayton: May 27 - June 2, 2016

It's a Bird... It's a Plane... It's the most super 5k of all...Furry Skurry to the Rescue! Don't Miss Out on the 25th Annual 5K & 1 Mile Walk/Run! It is Saturday, 8am - 5pm, at Eastwood Metropark. There are Dog Contests, lots of vendors, a Beer Garden, DJ and Live Music, and Food Trucks.

On Carillon Historical Park's western horizon the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra will be doing selections from John Philip Sousa, George Gershwin, Count Basie, and many others. High in the Deeds Carillon console, after playing patriotic selections throughout the day, award-winning carilloneur Larry Weinstein will join the philharmonic on the 1812 overture. From musket-firing to candle-dipping to theatrical performances, Heritage Day creates a Memorial Day Weekend to remember. Sunday, 11am - 8:30pm

Summer! The perfect time to enjoy the outdoors, be physically active and engage your mind. Make sure everyone in the family is signed up to take the Summer Challenge! Keep track of reading and attend Library programs, and you can earn great prizes! (a new bike for kids, Kindle Fire for teens, Dragons game tickets and SO much more!) There's a Challenge for all ages, from youngest to oldest.

The Greater Dayton RTA's new youth summer passport is just the ticket for area teens to get where they want to go this summer. The program will provide unlimited travel options for three months for a very low price. Check it out at i-riderta.org

Airstream has many of the top living landscape artists in the country and their exhibition is running in an annual gathering of Airstream owners and enthusiasts. The art exhibit will take place in the lobby of the customer service building which is north of us in Jackson Center. It will be open Tuesday, May 31 through Saturday, June 4. There is no charge.
