What's Great in Dayton: August 12 - 18, 2016

There are a few festivals that celebrate German traditions around the city, but Germanfest gives a glimpse of the German heritage that has given Dayton some of its cultural identity. They offer its food, drink, music, the crafts, and an appreciation of its history all while enjoying an import beer and a schnitzel. The Germanfest Picnic is tonight, Saturday and Sunday at The Carillon.

And on Saturday you can see The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Victoria Theater. Come dressed for a true late night movie cult classic. Leave your toast (and other props) at home...they have everything you'll need for it and survival kits will be available to buy in the lobby for. Join at 10 p.m. for music and the film begins at 10:30pm.

Art on the Commons at Kettering's Lincoln Park Civic Commons is on Sunday. This features fine arts and crafts by 100 talented artists from around the country. Entertainment is scheduled throughout the day and concessions are available. This is from 11am to 5pm.

On Sunday from 2:00 - 4:00 pm come to the Dunbar Literary Circle as they share poetry and short stories about the dog days of summer. Come read your own passage by your favorite poet or writer or simply listen and enjoy in their air conditioned facility. Light refreshments follow the program.

The YWCA Dayton is accepting nominations for honorees for its 20th anniversary class of Women of Influence Awards. Nominations are due Sept. 16, 2016. Guidelines and online submission forms are available at their website.
