What's Great in Dayton: April 6 - 12, 2012

Woodland Cemetary
Woodland Cemetary

This is the first time I have seen you in April and that means it is ….First Friday this month and in Downtown Dayton there is a free art hop from 5 to 10 p.m. tonight. First Friday lets you explore downtown and you can browse galleries, restaurants, downtown businesses, and live music. They will have some break dancers, a saxophonist, folk singers and fire dancers. As you are wandering around you will be hearing REV. COOL'S AROUND THE FRINGE since lots of places have dialed their radio to 91.3 WYSO.

Now there is a play at The Human Race called Gem of the Ocean and I saw it this week.  This is one of August Wilson's famed "Pittsburgh Cycle," and this one is in the early 1900’s.  Justice, integrity, support,…..made me wonder what if anything has changed in the last 100 years.

America's Big Band is here on Saturday for a one night stand. This one celebrates the 1940's through, song, swing dance and music of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and all the others. With music arrangements, costumes and choreography they are as authentic as it gets. It’s at the Victoria and check out www.inthemoodlive.com

Woodland Cemetery has 182 Ash Trees and they know that a ton of Emerald Ash Borers are buzzing there way and Woodland needs some volunteers. They want some folks to dig around every tree, and pour a chemical mixture into the trench. They supply the shovels.
