The issue to legalize pot in Ohio may have failed, but the leading Republican in the House says he’s gotten the message that Ohioans support medical marijuana.
Speaker Cliff Rosenberger of Clarksville in southwest Ohio says lawmakers will discuss how to permit marijuana for research and medical use in Ohio, but he warned it won’t come quickly.
“I am the Speaker of the People’s House and people around the state clearly have talked about the fact that medical marijuana is something that they’d like to see a conversation increase about, and that what’s we’re going to do,” Rosenberger said. “And we’re going to move this, as I continue to say, in a measured approach.”
Rosenberger says a bill on medical cannabis was proposed by a Republican lawmaker earlier this year, but the bill has yet to have its first hearing. Polling shows that while Ohioans are split on recreational marijuana, a vast majority supports legalizing the drug for medical use.
