Producer Julia Reichert on Excursions

Julia Reichert joined Niki Dakota on Excursions to talk about the upcoming premiere of the short documentary Sparkle. Reichert is an award winning documentary film maker with her partner Steve Bognar. This latest film tells the story of Sheri 'Sparkle' Williams a dancer with the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC) and her journey after what should have a career ending injury and the history of the DCDC. Williams has been dancing with the DCDC since she was nine and since then has become central to the company.

Reichert and Bognar were asked to do this film by the Corporation for Public Broadcasters. They followed the company to rehearsals, workshops and performances for two months, shadowing the lives of the dancers that Reichert describes as athletes and artists.   "They are a treasure of the Miami Valley," she added.

A vice president for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Jennifer Lawson, will be at the event to announce the air date and time that Sparkle will be shown at primetime on PBS.

Like the rest of Dayton the DCDC was badly affected by the recent economic crisis. There is hope that his film will be the beginning of their renewal and return to stability.
