Paul Benson Named University Of Dayton Provost

UD

The University of Dayton announced Thursday that current Interim Provost Paul Benson will take on the position permanently in July. Benson replaces Joseph Saliba, who stepped down in 2014.

Benson has worked for the university since 1985, first as a professor and then as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. He will serve a four-year term as provost.

In a statement on the university's website, President-designate Eric F. Spina said of Benson, "I have been impressed by Benson’s character, humility and intelligence since the day I met him. His understanding of the University of Dayton and his modeling of our values and charism will serve me and the institution extremely well as I prepare to begin my presidency in July."

Spina follows outgoing President Daniel J. Curran, who announced in 2014 that he would be stepping down from his post in June of this year.
