The Trump Administration is working to repeal the Clean Power Plan, the two-year-old federal proposal which required power plants to reduce their carbon emissions.
Melanie Houston with the Ohio Environmental Council says they’re putting together a legal challenge, arguing that the Clean Power Plan is vital in helping the U.S. EPA comply with the Clean Air Act.
“To really set the bar and set the base for what actions these states need to take," she says.
Opponents of the Clean Power Plan argue that it sets overly burdensome regulations for the coal industry, which is already struggling in the utilities market to compete with natural gas.
