Ohio College Students Plead For State To Provide More Need Based Aid and Debt Relief

College students from around the state are telling Senators at the Statehouse to put more need based funding for students in their upcoming budget proposal.

Just a few days ago, Rachael Collyer graduated from Ohio State University.  And now, when many students are thinking about their future, she’s worried about paying off about $27,000 in student loans. She wants state lawmakers to provide some debt relief for students like her in the upcoming state budget.

“There needs to be investment from the state in the people who are building our future and the people who are expected to be our future. And we simply cannot be a bright future for Ohio if we are drowning in debt,” Collyer says.

Collyer says the high debt is necessary because the state isn’t putting enough money into need based financial aid and is instead allowing state universities to spend heavily on building projects and administrative salaries.
