Jazz Guitarist Russell Malone To Perform In Cincinnati

Time for the Dancers is the latest album from jazz guitarist Russell Malone

Local music journalist and singer Duante Beddingfield interviewed world-class jazz guitarist Russell Malone, ahead of his performance in Cincinnati on Thursday, September 7. They discuss Malone's new release, Time for the Dancers, his influences, and his career both past and present.

During the interview, Malone discussed saxophonist Hank Crawford, one of his influences.

Here's Crawford in 1990 on David Sanborn's old show, Night Music. In the interview (and his playing, you'll hear how he influenced Sanborn's sound as well, and you'll hear the soulful, impassioned style that was Crawford's.

The clip Malone referenced with George Benson Benny Goodman was a tremendous pairing. The two had never played together prior to this, but recorded an album together shortly thereafter.

Russell Malone Quartet will perform as part of the Cocktails and Crown Jewels series on Thursday, September 7 at Smale Riverfront Park in Cincinnati.  More event information is available at: https://www.facebook.com/events/336693346783734
