Voters will decide a number of competitive races in the upcoming May 8 primary elections.

Among them is the Republican contest between incumbent Beavercreek State Rep. Rick Perales and challenger Jocelyn Smith.

The victor in that matchup will go on to face Democrat Kim McCarthy in November’s general election.

Rick Perales represents House District 73, covering western Greene County, including Beavercreek, Fairborn and Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Perales is serving a third term.

He's running against Fairborn resident Jocelyn Smith, who has accused Perales of inappropriate sexual behavior that allegedly included texting, unwanted kissing and choking. Ohio Public Radio station WOSU Public Media reports Perales denies the allegations.

On the Democratic side, Kim McCarthy, from Sugarcreek Twp., is running unopposed. McCarthy is a business owner and accountant who has been involved in the Occupy Wall Street movement.

Polls are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Primary Election Day, Tuesday, May 8.
