Flood Advisories For WYSO Listening Area

The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a Flood Advisory for:

  • Northern Wayne County in east central Indiana
  • Northern Preble County in west central Ohio
  • Southern Darke County in west central Ohio
  • Southwestern Clark County in west central Ohio
  • Greene County in west central Ohio
  • Montgomery County in west central Ohio

The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers

  • Little Miami River at Kings Mills
  • Little Miami River at Milford
  • Great Miami River at Sidney
  • Great Miami River near Middletown
  • Great Miami River at Miamitown
  • East Fork Whitewater River at Abington
  • West Fork of Whitewater River at Alpine
  • Whitewater River at Brookville
  • Great Miami River at Troy
  • Great Miami River at Taylorsville
  • Great Miami River At Miamisburg
  • Great Miami at Franklin
  • Great Miami River at Hamilton
  • Mad River at Springfield

The Flood Warning continues for the Mad River at Springfield until Wednesday morning. At 2pm Tuesday, the stage was 10.7 feet. Flood stage is 11 feet. Locations along the river upstream in Champaign and Logan Counties may also experience flooding in lowland areas.  Some evacuations may be necessary in low-lying communities along the river. 
FLASH FLOOD WATCH NOW IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE TONIGHT

The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for portions of Indiana and Ohio, including the following areas, in Indiana, Fayette IN, Franklin IN, Union IN, and Wayne. In Ohio, Butler, Clark, Clinton, Fairfield, Fayette OH, Franklin OH, Greene, Hocking, Licking, Madison, Montgomery, Pickaway, Preble, Ross, and Warren.

Showers and thunderstorms will continue through this morning. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches, with local higher amounts will be possible. This rainfall will fall on saturated soils, leading to the risk of flash flooding. Additional rainfall is expected with thunderstorms this evening.

Flash flooding, including the flooding of creeks and streams, will be possible with this rainfall event. Area rivers will likely see rises as well.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

People in the watch area should keep an eye on the weather and be prepared for immediate action should heavy rains and flooding occur or a Flash Flood Warning be issued. Avoid low-lying areas, and be careful when approaching highway dips and underpasses.
