Traffic cameras will officially be activated in Dayton next month, according to a press release issued by the city.
Red light and speed cameras at 5 major intersections could be turned on as early as Sunday, October 1. Cameras will be located on:
James H. McGee Blvd. at Third St.
N. Main St. at Siebenthaler Ave.
N. Gettysburg Ave at Fairbanks Ave.
Linden Ave at Smithville Rd.
S. Keowee St. between Third St. and Fifth St.
In a press release, city officials said violators will only receive warnings during the month of October. Come November, each violation will result in an $85 fine. Cameras will be active 24 hours a day.
This is the first time traffic cameras have operated in the city since 2015, when state regulations shuttered the program. A recent Ohio Supreme Court ruling overturned those restrictions.
Dayton officials say additional cameras may be activated in the future.
