Dayton Town Hall Meeting On State Budget

House Democratic Leader Fred Strahorn (D-Dayton) addresses the House during opening session of the 131st General Assembly

State Rep. and House Democratic Leader Fred Strahorn is expected to take questions from the public Monday at a town hall meeting in Dayton. The event was organized by the activist group Dayton Indivisible For All to call attention to the ongoing state budget process.

Governor Kasich must sign the two-year budget bill by the end of this month. State legislators recently cut $800 million out of the upcoming budget due to lower than expected tax revenues.

Organizer Davin Flateau says it’s important for Miami Valley residents to stay informed about the Ohio state budget.

“You know a lot of the focus seems to be on the federal government, and for good reason. But we can’t ignore the state government. It’s just as important, if not more important, to the issues we’re dealing with here in the Miami Valley.”

Other speakers at the event will include David Romick, president of the Dayton Education Association and Dawn Cooksey with Goodwill Easter Seals.

The town hall will held tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Grace: A United Methodist Community at 1001 Harvard Blvd in Dayton.
