Greater Dayton RTA wants people to leave their cars behind and use public transport for a day.
Thursday they’re hosting Dump The Pump Day and offering free rides to the public. RTA wants people to try public transport as an alternative to driving themselves.
In a released statement, Director of Planning and Marketing Frank Ecklar said, “It’s our way of reaching out to potential customers who may be interested in giving transit a try. We want people to board our buses and find out how relaxing and comfortable they are."
RTA is making a festival-of-sorts out of the day and say they'll feature a live radio remote broadcast by Mix 107.7, a photo booth, and prizes, including a year’s worth of passes, Dragons Tickets, an annual membership to the Link bike share.
The campaign is supported by the American Public Transportation Association and RTA’s Drive Less Live More partners. The event will include demonstrations and information on programs like RTA alerts and ‘park and ride’.
