City Opens Rec Centers As 'Warming Centers' During Cold Snap

The Greater Dayton Recreation Center is one of several warming facilities the city is offering to residents during the week's extreme cold.

Freezing temperatures are expected to continue throughout the week, and the city of Dayton has opened several city recreational facilities as warming centers for residents who need a place to escape the cold.

Officials say the warming centers will remain open during regular business hours through Friday, Jan. 5.

Those centers are:

* Greater Dayton Recreation Center, 2021 W. Third St.

* Northwest Recreation Center, 1600 Princeton Ave.

* Lohrey Recreation Center, 2366 Glenarm Ave.

The centers are expected to be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
