Bus Tour Aims To Highlight Obamacare As Open Enrollment Ends

The final day of open enrollment for most insurance coverage through the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, is Tuesday, Jan. 31, and health care advocates are encouraging Ohioans to sign up for plans before it's too late.

A coalition of Miami Valley doctors, business owners, students and lawmakers is taking this message on the road with the cross-country Save My Care Bus Tour, designed to push Congress to preserve the federal health insurance law. President Trump and some GOP lawmakers have vowed to repeal at least part of the Affordable Care Act.

Save My Care spokesman David Miller says repeal of the Affordable Care Act would hurt millions of Americans currently covered under the law.

“With the immediate repeal of the Affordable Care Act, estimates shows that 20 to 30 million people could lose their health care pretty immediately. These people have preexisting conditions. These are people who are under 26 years old and still on their parent’s healthcare plan,” Miller says.

Enrollment will still be available after Jan. 31 for people eligible for Medicaid, and anyone experiencing life-changes such as having a baby or getting married.

The Save My Care bus tour is a two-month, coast-to-coast trek that began in Washington D.C. The tour is expected to make stops in Columbus and Indianapolis in coming days.
