Book Nook: Love You Dead, by Peter James

Peter James returned to the program to talk about his latest crime novel in his series featuring the English cop Roy Grace. In this latest offering, "Love Me Dead," Roy is trying to track down a woman who has been marrying rich men and then killing them. This Black Widow character has been trolling the internet searching for her victims. She's so busy that as the book opens she is preparing to kill one husband while she is already weaving her web to trap the next one. She also has a thing for poisonous creatures-she has a secret room in her Brighton residence filled with vipers, spiders, and all manner of deadly crawly things.

Peter James is a master at setting up his stories and in this interview he describes how he did his research for this one. He got his inspiration for his Black Widow killer from a woman, a convicted killer he met after giving a speech at a prison. He came up with the poisonous creature angle after chatting with a cop about collecting poisonous frogs. And he traveled to Holland to observe a thriving commerce in deadly reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids.

After our interview Peter sent me an e-mail. He wanted to also mention that he has a new venture on YouTube called Peter James TV. Peter has been interviewing some of his peers and posting the video on his channel. I just watched his interviews with Lee Child and Val McDermid and I really enjoyed them.
