The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left one person dead early Wednesday in Miami Township.
Police officials say the victim was shot after refusing to drop what was later determined to be a pellet gun.
Miami Township Police spokesman John Magill says officers responded to reports of “suicidal threats” being made by a resident of the Oakwood Village mobile home park.
“When the officers responded they were told that somebody was drinking, had a gun and wanted to pull the trigger. When they arrived, they were met at the front door by a man who came to the door with a gun in his hand. After some warnings there were shots fired and that person was wounded, fatally.”
The officers involved in the shooting have been identified as James McCarty and Shawn Todd. They’re expected to remain on paid administrative leave until the investigation is complete.
The Montgomery County coroner’s office has identified the victim as 32-year-old Robert Edwards, a white male.
No official cause of death has yet been released.
