COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Forty-one undocumented immigrants with criminal backgrounds were arrested in Ohio as part of a nation-wide enforcement effort.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has arrested 2,901 such illegal immigrants with criminal records throughout the nation in a seven-day enforcement operation.

The immigration enforcement agency reports that of the total arrested, 42 were gang members and 151 were convicted sex offenders. The agency says the effort is the largest of its kind.

In Ohio, 18 illegal immigrants were arrested in the Columbus area, nine in Cleveland and the remaining 14 throughout the rest of the state.

Immigration officials did not identify the people arrested in Ohio, or what crimes they had committed.
