Jerry Kenney

Host, All Things Considered and Producer, WYSO Weekend

Jerry Kenney was introduced to WYSO by a friend and within a year of first tuning in became an avid listener and supporter. He began volunteering at the station in 1991 and began hosting Alpha Rhythms in February of 1992. Jerry joined the WYSO staff in 2007 as a host of All Things Considered and soon transitioned into hosting Morning Edition. In addition to now hosting All Things Considered, Jerry is the host and producer of WYSO Weekend, WYSO's weekly news and arts magazine. He has also produced several radio dramas for WYSO in collaboration with local theater companies. Jerry has won several Ohio AP awards as well as an award from PRINDI for his work with the WYSO news department. Jerry says that the best part of his job is being able to talk to people in the community and share their experiences with WYSO listeners.

Ryan Visit to Alma Mater Miami University Generates Excitement

In less than an hour, Republican Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan will speak at his alma mater, Miami University in Oxford.  Ryan graduated from Miami University in 1992. 

Tyler Sinclair with Miami University’s College Republicans says students there are excited to have an alum on the presidential ticket.  He believes even students who voted for President Barack Obama in the last election may swing their votes over to Mitt Romney, but not just because he’s “one of them.”

Congressman Mike Turner Hosts Forum on Looming Sequestration Cuts

Sequestration hearings at Sinclair Community College

Yesterday (8-14-12), Elected leaders from Montgomery and Greene Counties joined Congressman Mike Turner for a community forum focusing on the impact that sequestration defense cuts will have on the Dayton region.  They heard testimony from local experts and business leaders about possible affects of the defense cuts, which have a growing number of people worried about their communities.

Rep. Mike Turner Comments on Treasury Dept. Involvement in Delphi Pension Cuts

When automaker, General Motors, went through bankruptcy in 2009, about 20,000 non-union, salaried retirees from Delphi saw their pensions slashed, and other benefits like health and life insurance dropped completely.  Those cuts were not applied to all Delphi union workers.  WYSO’s Jerry Kenney reports, fingers are now pointing at the US Treasury Department for not applying those cuts evenly for all Delphi workers.

Congressman Mike Turner Announces Forum on Looming Sequestration Cuts

Yesterday (8-7-12), Congressman Mike Turner announced that a forum, focusing on the impact impending-defense-cuts will have on the Dayton region will take place next week.  WYSO’s Jerry Kenney was on hand for the event.

Speaking before workers at the GEMCITY manufacturing plant on Leo St. in Dayton, Turner said the sequestration cuts in defense spending are the result of a compromise on last year’s debt ceiling talks.
