Documents Show Boehner Had Role In Redistricting

Public documents obtained by Ohio voter advocates show a key representative of U.S. House Speaker John Boehner was central in drawing the state's disputed congressional map.

Records released today by the Ohio Campaign for Accountable Redistricting show Tom Whatman, executive director of Team Boehner, participated in the process with legislative leaders, mapmaking consultants and the National Republican Congressional Committee. The correspondence includes a pledge by GOP Senate President Tom NiehausĀ  to deliver "a map that Speaker Boehner fully supports."

Ohio Teachers Worried About Proposed Rating System

A state report shows Ohio teachers aren't particularly happy with the current way they are evaluated, but
they are worried about a new system that will take effect after next year.

The Columbus Dispatch obtained a copy of the report through a records request. It is due out Monday.

Each of Ohio's 614 school districts must adopt new evaluations that count student performance as half of the score by the 2013-14 school year. Individual districts can come up with their own plans.

Cleveland Casino Posts 750 More Job Openings

Ohio's first casino opening in March has posted an additional 750 jobs, including cashiers, bartenders, buffet
supervisors and security guards.

The casino posted the jobs Monday on its website www.HorseshoeCleveland.com

The casino says the openings cover 40 job classifications including administrative support, guest services, marketing and finance.

Online postings will be removed when sufficient applicants have been screened and scheduled for interviews.

Ohio Casino Buying Ritz-Carlton and Office Tower

Ohio's first casino opening early next year is buying an upscale hotel to expand its footprint in downtown Cleveland.

Rock Ohio Caesars says it will exercise an option to buy the four-star Ritz-Carlton hotel for $36.5 million. The casino operator also has purchased an attached five-story office tower recently sold in a mortgage default auction for $3.5 million.

The hotel and office tower are adjacent to the Horseshoe Casino Cleveland that will open in March. The casino operator says it will use the bank office tower - vacant since 2008 - for administrative offices.

Ohio School Voucher Bill to be Revised

The sponsor of legislation to expand private-school vouchers in Ohio says the proposal will be modified to address concerns from public schools and their allies.

School district officials opposing the measure say it wrongly steers money away from public schools and away from public accountability.

Republican state Rep. Matt Huffman of Lima tells The Columbus Dispatch he's willing to drop or redraw parts of his bill. He's planning a news conference next week on a new plan.
