Speaker John Boehner says that by keeping Republicans in control of the House, voters made clear there's no mandate for raising taxes.

Boehner, however, offered to work with any willing partner, Republican or Democrat, to get things done.

Speaking to Republican supporters, Boehner's statement Tuesday night offered no compromise on GOP opposition to President Barack Obama's call for increasing tax rates for wealthy Americans.

Boehner said the American people showed they backed the GOP position on reducing spending by renewing the party's House majority.

Clark County voters did not approve Issue 25 yesterday. The Developmental Disabilities Board there was seeking approval of a new, 1.75 million, eight year levy. WYSO's Wayne Baker reports that the issue failed by more than 1,100 votes.

According to unofficial results with 100 percent of the precincts reporting, Issue 25 failed by a count of 51 to 49 percent. More than 30,000 voters were against the measure and 29,000 voted to approve it.

School levies have been notoriously tough to pass in the last several years as voters struggled with an economy that has been slow to recover. Typically, schools that ask for a renewal of an existing levy get it, while schools that want extra money are turned down. This election mostly followed the rule, though many districts were banking on the larger voter turnout of a presidential election.

In the Ohio race, incumbent Sherrod Brown defeated Republican State Treasurer Josh Mandel.

Former Dayton Daily News editor Ellen Belcher says when Mandel decided to run against Brown, not many people gave him a chance - but when money started pouring in, the tide started turning.

"Its been up and down and there were moments when people thought Sherrod Brown could actually lose this. I think this is one of those times where those who think that money can't buy an election are proven right," says Belcher.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Justice Terrence O'Donnell has defeated Democratic state Sen. Mike Skindell in one of three Ohio Supreme Court races.

The Cleveland Republican beat the suburban Cleveland lawmaker Tuesday for a six-year term. O'Donnell joined the court in 2003.

In a second race, Republican Justice Robert Cupp, of Lima, faced Democrat William O'Neill, a retired appeals court judge from Cleveland. O'Neill had a slight lead with about 90 percent of precincts reporting.
