Canceled Program Costs 115 Jobs at Wright-Patt

The Air Force says the cancelation of a computer modernization program will cost 115 contract employees their jobs at Wright-Patterson Air Force base.

Base spokesman Daryl Mayer said Thursday that cancelation of the Expeditionary Combat Support System program also means that an additional 55 civilian and military employees will be reassigned from that program.

Mayer says the canceled program had been intended to replace some older computer systems to meet statutory requirements for financial and audit readiness mandated by Congress.

Dragons Baseball Team to Honor Springfield Guard and WPAFB Saturday Night

The Dayton Dragons have partnered with the Dayton Development Coalition, to honor all service men and women associated with Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and the Springfield Air National Guard Base.

The Dragons are set to host the final “Hometown Heroes Celebration Night” of the season at Fifth Third Field on Saturday, when they open up a four-game series against the West Michigan Whitecaps. The game starts at 7 p.m., but the activities start on the plaza at 6 p.m.

Space Shuttle Trainer Arrives In Dayton

Dayton may have been passed over to receive a space shuttle but the National Museum of the United States Air Force now has the next best thing.

For more than 30 years Crew Compartment Trainer One was used to teach astronauts how to fly orbiters and operate equipment in space.

Astronaut Greg Johnson was on hand Wednesday as CCT-1 arrived on the NASA Super Guppy aircraft. Johnson says he spent almost more time in the trainer than in actual space.
