120 Ohio Post Offices Studied for Possible Closing

About 120 post offices in the state are among those being considered for closure by the U.S. Postal Service to save money. The list of offices facing a review includes 11 in Cleveland, six each in Columbus and Dayton, five in Toledo, three in Akron and one in Cincinnati.

Post Office Explores Possible Ohio Consolidation

The struggling U.S. Postal Service says it may combine some of its larger mail sorting centers in Ohio.

The Vindicator newspaper reports the post office will study a possible transfer of its Youngstown mail processing and distribution to facilities in Akron or Cleveland.

The postal service says the consolidation would be a response to a drop in mail volume, due to the economy, and the use of email.

Stories from the village of Yellow Springs gathered at the post office during one long day by WYSO reporters and volunteers. It's an audio time capsule about a small town with a long history on the first day of the holiday mailing season, the Monday after Thanksgiving, 2010.
