House Budget Says No To Medicaid, Yes to Income Tax Cut

In this week's PoliticsOhio, Emily McCord speaks to Statehouse Bureau reporters Bill Cohen and Jo Ingles to discuss the Ohio House version of the budget, which includes a 7% income tax cut for Ohioans, a rejection of Governor Kasich's proposal to extend Medicaid coverage and the tax on oil and gas drillers. Jo Ingles reports the house also got rid of a plan to ban educator's for talking about "gateway sex", but that it's a conversation that's likely to come up again.

PoliticsOhio: Ohio Unlikely To Make Changes to Gun Laws

This week, Connecticut lawmakers passed one of the toughest gun laws in the nation, four months after the shootings in Newtown. It includes an assault weapons ban, universal background checks and limits to the size of magazines. Things are moving much slower at the federal level. PoliticsOhio: Deadline To Avoid Sequestration Looms With Little Hope Of A Deal

There is one week left to avoid sequestration, or the automatic spending cuts that will take effect March 1 if President Obama and Congress cannot reach a deal. Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, area business and those in the defense industry are bracing for furloughs that could impact the 13,000  civilian employees, which could have a ripple effect on the local economy.
