Wright-Patt Workers Appeal Furloughs

More than 150 civilian employees at Ohio's largest military base have taken steps to appeal furloughs imposed because of federal budget cuts.

The Dayton Daily News reports that the civil service workers at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base are among 6,800 nationwide attached to the Air Force seeking to be exempted from the forced time off.

Wright-Patt Unit To Take Meals to Haiti

A unit from Wright-Patterson Air Force base plans to deliver more than 500 meals from a nonprofit group for residents of Haiti.

Officials at Wright-Patt  say a 445th Airlift Wing unit will leave this morning to deliver about 541,000 meals consisting of dried and sealed food packets to the impoverished country.

Tomorrow is the 6th of June. Sixty-nine years ago, the allied forces at war with Hitler’s Germany invaded northern France in what will always be known as D-Day. On that morning in 1944, when Ohioans woke up, the battle in Europe had already been going on for hours. The airborne troops were the first ones to enter the conflict. One local paratroop veteran of that battled died recently, but told his story to our aviation commentator Dan Patterson.

Union Urges Furloughed Wright-Patt Workers To Appeal

A labor union representing thousands of civilian employees at Ohio's largest military base wants them to appeal furlough notices resulting from federal budget cuts.

More than 10,000 civilian employees at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton began receiving the 11-day furlough notices Friday. The U.S. Department of Defense said 680,000 civilian employees will get the furloughs one day a week for 11 weeks, starting July 8.
