Book Nook: Shoot the Woman First, by Wallace Stroby

Wallace Stroby's latest Crissa Stone novel "Shoot the Woman First" is another superb example of a literary genre where the protagonist is a sympathetic anti-hero of sorts. Crissa makes her living by stealing money. Her victims are frequently other criminals.

In this one Crissa and her cohorts have plotted a scheme to steal the ill gotten gains from a drug dealer in Detroit. They engineer their heist but things go awry. There's a betrayal and dogged pursuit in the form of a corrupt ex-cop who will do anything to track down Crissa on behalf of the drug dealer who got ripped off.

Book Nook: Nowhere Nice, by Rick Gavin

"Nowhere Nice" is the third book in a series set in the Mississippi Delta. Nick Reid and his buddy Desmond are repo men. They spend their time tracking down customers who have fallen behind on their installment plans. Nick and Desmond repossess TV's and other items from people who don't often feel inclined to part with these luxuries.

Book Nook: Vanished, by Wil Hylton

Over 56,000 American troops have been listed as missing in action in wars that have been fought over the past century. The majority of these soldiers were lost in the Pacific theater during WWII. In "Vanished"  Wil Hylton traces what became of the eleven man crew of an American B-24 bomber that crashed in 1944 near the remote Pacific archipelago of Palau. Divers searching for the underwater wreckage of the plane eventually located it. Wil Hylton describes how the search for this missing plane happened.
