Human Race Theatre

Today is First Friday in downtown Dayton. There will be a Walking Tour, Craft Battle, Beer Tasting, Art Shows, and More.

When two cynical lawyers-one black and one white- prepare to defend a powerful white businessman accused of raping a young black woman, they must confront their own perceptions and prejudices….and this is a play at the Human Race Theatre.

The Dayton Gay Men's Chorus will offer their classic and wildly entertaining vocal performances during the evening on Saturday, at 6:00pm. This year it will include again the incomparable Rubi Girls.

Downtown's First Friday art hop will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. tonight. Activated spaces will host a tour of newly installed window clings featuring the work of local artists. The tour begins at American Pi 37 South St. Clair Street at 5:45 p.m.  The installation of the window clings is the final phase of the Activated Spaces
Street Team art initiative, which placed works of art in vacant storefront windows throughout downtown.

The Human Race Theatre is proud to present the reductionist version of Oliver! directed by Alan Souza. The show runs from November 29th - December 22nd at The Loft Theatre in Dayton.   The musical is based off of Charles Dicken's famous novel Oliver Twist which became a literary phenomenon in England around the 1830's. Many years later the book became a musical and a movie. The music of Oliver! was performed by many famous divas including Judy Garland and Shirley Bassey.

So many things are going on….can you take a long break??? Now there is a play called Gem of the Ocean. This is one of August Wilson's famed "Pittsburgh Cycle," ten plays about residents of that city's Hill District. It's a mixture of fantasy and harsh reality, as 285-year old Aunt Ester leads a community for whom slavery is an all-too-vivid memory.  Visit humanrace theatre.org.

Do you have tunes for Rosemary Clooney like Come On-A My House and Mambo Italiano?

I heard both of those and many others at the Victoria a couple of nights ago. The Human Race has a new musical that captures Rosemary Clooney’s career. It’s all about the challenges she faced as wife, mother and performer and these are related with her nervous breakdown, depression and drug addiction.

This whole weekend is the Muse Machine’s musical The Wizard of OZ.This show has all star kids all over the region with true professional Broadway coaches . They’re doing a superb show at the Victoria.

And at the Schuster there are Three Phantoms in Concert. These guys have all been leading tenors in that famous show and they will be doing all kind of Broadway tunes.  Check it out daytonphilharmonic.org
