Straight A Funding Will Create Education Hub At Springfield's South High School

Springfield's former South High School, built in the early 1900s, is on its way to becoming an educational hub for students. Recently, a consortium of four local schools received an $11.3 million state Straight A grant for the renovation.

South High will now be called the Greater Springfield Career ConnectED Center, and it will house the  Global Impact Stem Academy,  Springfield City Schools, Clark-Shawnee Local and the Career Tech Center under the title of College and Career Readiness Hub. The plan is to offer education for in-demand careers and become a center of innovation.

Ribbon Cutting Held for Springfield's Global Impact Stem Academy

Several dignitaries including State Senator Chris Widener and Mayor Warren Copeland gathered on the campus of Clark State University Monday afternoon for a ribbon cutting ceremony.  The event formally opened Springfield's Global Impact STEM Academy.

Widener called the academy the first of it's kind in the nation that will allow students to study while also gaining hands on experience in the agricultural bio-sciences field. After thanking Clark State President Dr. Jo Alice Blondin for helping provide a temporary location for the school, but Widener also talked about a permanent future site.

Bob Evans Sells Springfield Meat Processing Center

Bob Evans Farms has sold its Springfield sausage production facility. The plant has been sold to a California-based private equity firm.

The plant, which makes soups, gravy and sausage, along with another production plant in Bidwell, Ohio and Bob Evans' former headquarters in Columbus, were all sold to New Mill Capital.

New Mill Capital purchased the Springfield facility for $90,000. As a result of the plant's sale, 52 jobs will be lost when the company officially closes later this year.

Bob Evans develops partnership with Global Stem Academy

Bob Evans Farms is partnering with Springfield's Global Impact Stem Academy. The restaurant chain plans to offer internships and curriculum development for the academy.

State Senator Chris Widener says the partnership with Bob Evans will give students a rare opportunity to get first hand experience in the food and farm industries.
