A story in Bloomberg earlier this week found that hedge fund Magnetar has bought up a significant chunk of the rental stock in Montgomery County’s Huber Heights—and then requested a major reduction in those properties’ values. That reduction, if approved, could affect the city’s taxes and levies.

Tecumseh School District Seeks To Pass First Levy In Nearly Two Decades

Tecumseh Local Schools will ask voters to approve a 5-year,12.37-mill levy tax levy this November, the district's 11th levy request in nine years. If the levy fails, the school district will face an operating deficit of $8 million by 2017.

Superintendent Bradley Martin says Tecumseh's school levy is carrying a higher millage rate this time around because voters have failed to pass a levy in nearly 20 years.

Miami Valley School Districts Seek Levy Funding on November Ballots

School levies are among the biggest issues on the ballot in the upcoming November 5, 2013 election. Ohio schools depend on these levies as an essential funding stream, and many are facing new or additional levies that can be difficult to pass.

Money for Ohio’s public schools comes from three sources: federal funds, state funds, and local tax levies.

“Levies then become the source really of their chief operating funds,” explains Mark Smith of Cedarville University. “For most cases those local schools are very dependent upon those local property taxes.”

Early Voting Numbers Low In Clark County

Early voting numbers in Clark County for the November 5 general election have been low so far. With no hot button issues like casino approvals or collective bargaining limits, this year's election isn't likely to drive many people to the polls.

Clark County's ballot does include school levies, tax issues and municipal races, but Board of Elections Director Matthew Tlachac says voters shouldn't overlook local races and levies.

Tecumseh School Board Candidate Dies, Name Will Still Appear On Ballot

Tuesday is the start of absentee voting in Ohio and one school board race in Clark County has an emotional issue to deal with. School board candidate Ron Lyons died recently, but his name will still appear on the ballot for the Tecumseh School Board race.

The 76-year-old Lyons was well liked in the area and served on the Tecumseh School Board and as a Bethel Township Trustee. The Air Force veteran died unexpectedly last week.
