Antioch College Leader Reflects On Past Year And Future

One year ago this past weekend, Antioch University and Antioch College officially became two separate institutions. Next fall, the college plans to welcome students back to campus. As WYSO's Emily McCord reports, the plan is to start out small.

Miamisburg Schools Meet to Put Levy on May Ballot

Miamisburg City Schools is holding a meeting Thursday to discuss their budget for next year. Earlier this week, voters approved a renewal levy, but did not pass an additional emergency levy that the district says it badly needs. As it stands now, it faces a 4.5 million dollar shortfall. Marsha Watts is the Assistant Superintendent.

"Revenues are down in our district, the value of houses and property taxes are down. Our revenues from the state are down, and the state has its own financial crisis going on," says Watts.

Greene County Group Hopes To Improve School Budgets Through Sharing

School boards in Ohio are under a lot of economic pressure right now. They have to tighten their budgets, and on top of that, the shape of Ohio's state budget leaves questions about how much funding schools will receive in the future. In Greene County, there's a grass roots effort to save money in schools. It's got the attention of Governor Strickland.

Obama Gives Education Policy Speech in Dayton area

Barack Obama's education plan focused on raising expectations and resources for schools, bringing innovation to the classroom, and holding teachers, parents and the government accountable for their performance. One feature of the innovation plan includes doubling the funding for charter schools, in part to give parents more choices on where they will send their children.
