Congressman Mike Turner Announces Forum on Looming Sequestration Cuts

Yesterday (8-7-12), Congressman Mike Turner announced that a forum, focusing on the impact impending-defense-cuts will have on the Dayton region will take place next week.  WYSO’s Jerry Kenney was on hand for the event.

Speaking before workers at the GEMCITY manufacturing plant on Leo St. in Dayton, Turner said the sequestration cuts in defense spending are the result of a compromise on last year’s debt ceiling talks.

Governor Kasich Announces More Jobs Coming To Dayton Area

Governor Kasich announced approval for 25 projects across the state, which he says will create more than 2000 jobs. At the monthly meeting of the Ohio Tax Credit Authority, several  proposals were approved in the Miami Valley. Among them, Production Control Units Incorporated in Dayton was approved and it expects to create 55 full time jobs. The company specializes in production process, automated assembly and product testing. Also, BOI solution was approved by the Tax Credit Authority for its new location project in Miamisburg.

Ohio Officials Pull Back Medicaid Eligibility Plan

State officials say they will delay submitting a plan to the federal government to overhaul the Medicaid eligibility process for about 700,000 Ohioans who receive the tax-funded health services.

Dayton Area Sees Job Growth From Last Year

The Dayton area added 48 hundred jobs during the past year. That’s from a report released this week by a national business journal called On Numbers. As WYSO’s Emily McCord explains, it’s the second year in a row of job growth.

Montgomery County Proposes Funding For Area Projects

Montgomery County is recommending nine area projects for funding, totaling nearly $1.5 million. The Ohio Economic Development Government Equity Advisory Committee, or EDGE, is spearheading the request.

One proposed project is a $100,000  investment to create corporate headquarters for the medical manufacturing group, Midmark.  The money would be used to renovate an existing facility at Tech Town. According to a press release from the county, the project would bring 57 jobs to the area.
