Dayton-Area Home Sales Up in September, But Downsides Remain

Home sales numbers are out for September, and the greater Dayton area shows an increase of 21 percent compared to September of 2012. The dollar volume in the first nine months of the year, $1.3 billion, also increased 21 percent compared to the first nine months of 2012.

Nancy Farkas of the Dayton Area Board of Realtors says she sees the most growth in places like Kettering, Centerville and Beavercreek. But overall, she says the outlook is positive across the board.

Government Shutdown Delays Ohio Jobs Data Report

The monthly Ohio unemployment report scheduled for Friday will be delayed because of the federal government shutdown. That means residents and employers will have to wait to find out whether the slight uptick in the state jobless rate for August continued last month.

The Columbus Dispatch says the state compiles the report using data from the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Census Bureau. The shutdown is affecting both agencies.

Bob Evans Says It's Growing in Clark and Greene Counties

Bob Evans Farms says it is growing its business operations in Clark and Greene Counties. The company is looking at a possible expansion in Xenia and further developing its partnership with Springfield's Global Impact STEM Academy. But that comes after an announcement earlier this year that Bob Evans sold its Springfield sausage plant to a Texas company, cutting 52 jobs in Springfield

Aviation Hall of Fame Ceremony Moved Due to Government Shutdown

The National Aviation Hall of Fame announced it will move its 51st Annual Enshrinement Dinner & Ceremony due to the federal government shutdown. The event will no longer be held at the National Museum of the US Air Force, and now will move into a smaller venue at the Hope hotel at Wright-Patt.

Enshrinement Director, Ron Kaplan, says the last minute move has created additional expense for the Hall of Fame but believes there’s a greater loss for attendees.
