New Arts Alliance Launches In Dayton

Jul 10, 2012

It's been a tough couple of years on arts communities across the nation and in Dayton, a new collaboration is taking place. As Emily McCord reports for WYSO, The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance is the first merged philharmonic orchestra, ballet, and opera organization in the country.

Chris…..do you have any dogs???

Wilbur and Orville Wright had two ….Flyer and Scipio! On Saturday morning, 9:00 - 11:00 you will learn how these pups touched the lives of these famous brothers. It’s dog walk ranger program at Huffman Prairie Flying Field.

Have you seen the huge daffodil farm? It is in Oakwood. Find Ridgeway Road and Peach Orchard ….it is a little north. Absolutely amazing and gorgeous!

The Dayton Philharmonic is doing Home City Stars. The trumpet guy is doing a musical interpretation of that poem by T.S.Eliot, The Hollow Men and Scott Stoney will recite the text.

It’s First Friday and all kind of things are happening in downtown Dayton. Lots of places have set their radio to right here, 91.3 so everyone will be hearing Rev Cool and his music.

Three major Dayton arts organizations are making an unusual move to merge under a single management structure.

The Dayton Ballet, Dayton Opera and Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra are forming the Dayton Performing Alliance.  The new nonprofit organization announced it will have one board of directors and three artistic directors.

Leaders from the individual organizations say it could boost artistic collaboration and may be a model for arts groups elsewhere to consider.
