Group: Data Shows Jump in Ohio Child Poverty Rate

COLUMBUS, Ohio - An Ohio child advocacy group says data being released Wednesday shows that the state's child poverty rate increased nearly 50 percent over eight years.

The Children's Defense Fund-Ohio says in the 2011 KIDS COUNT Data Book, the Annie E. Casey Foundation shows that the state's 2009 child poverty rate was 22 percent, a 46 percent increase over 2001.

Overall, Ohio ranked 29th among the states in indicators of child health and well-being, the same as last year.
