What The Springboro School Board Election Can Teach Us About Politics And Religion

Nothing gets much more local than a school board election, but what’s happened in Springboro has gotten national attention. The district has been criticized in recent years over its discussion of hot button topics, like teaching creationism in the classroom and constitutional classes with religious overtones.

With the election of more moderate members, Ron Malone, Charles Anderson and Dave Stuckey, to the school board, voters in Springboro have signaled a shift away from the conservative agenda that has been at play there over the past several years.

Cedarville Appoints New President, Reallocates Money in Budget


Cedarville University has hired a new president and reorganized its finances. The university has laid off 29 non-teaching employees to help deal with a $4 million budget reallocation and selected a replacement for Bill Brown, who retired after 1o years leading the school.

The university's board of trustees issued a mandate stating that $4 million of the school's $110 million operating budget needed to be reallocated in order to keep operations sustainable.

Cedarville University Going Solar

A Miami Valley is making a big push into solar energy.

Construction should start this month at Cedarville University for a solar array of more than 2,000 kilowatts. Power should flow in April.

The school says the energy will be enough for 250 homes, besides bringing the environmental benefits of using solar power.

The Dayton Daily News reports that Cedarville has made solar technology part of its curriculum for years. The Christian-based school has some 3,400 students.
