Car Accident

Xenia Township officials say nearly 1,100 piglets may have died in a Monday night crash on U.S. Route 35. A semi-trailer was carrying 2200 piglets when it lost control, crashed into a guardrail and lost its cargo.

Township Administrator, Alan Stock says the situation was a serious one.

"When you think about 2200 pigs, that can be humorous," He said. "but in all actuality this was a very large scale accident that shut down a highway for eight hours. So the first thing that we’re looking for is public safety.”

A construction worker was killed when a section of an unused overpass collapsed onto the southbound lanes of I-75 Monday night. A truck driver was hurt when his semi hit the collapse, near Hopple Street. Chief Jeffery Blackwell says the collapse will affect southbound traffic.

"We anticipate at least a 48-hour closure of 75 South. We want to advise people to please stay away from the area," he said.

Blackwell also pointed out the truck driver was lucky.

"In a matter of seconds, his fate would have been different as well."

COLUMBUS, Ohio - An Ohio motorist says a water balloon thrown from another car shattered her windshield and sent glass fragments flying into her eyes.

Shannon Minic says her 6-year-old son was riding with her just east of downtown Columbus Saturday afternoon and had to direct her so she could pull over.

The boy also called 911. Medics treated Minic's eyes at the scene.

Police say a water balloon would have been capable of causing damage, given the speeds of the two vehicles.
