COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A Columbus police spokesman says an internal investigation continues into officers' use of tear gas and pepper spray to disperse crowds following Ohio State's football championship victory.

Columbus Police Chief Kim Jacobs called for the review last week in an email sent to police and some city officials.

Ohio State says interim coach Luke Fickell will remain on Urban Meyer's staff and lead the Buckeyes in a their bowl game.

Meyer, the former Florida coach and native Buckeye, was officially hired Monday by Ohio State, a program with a glittering past that has suffered through a difficult year of NCAA violations, suspensions and a 6-6 record.

The university scheduled a 5:15 p.m. EST news conference to introduce Meyer.
