James Lee Burke has spent the past forty years writing exquisitely crafted works of literary fiction. Burke is best known for his series of crime novels featuring the Louisiana lawman Dave Robicheaux. In his latest, "The Glass Rainbow," the 18th book in this series, Dave is plunged into a murder mystery that is based upon some actual unsolved crimes. Dave and his best buddy, the private investigator Clete Purcell, become entangled in the dark schemes of a serial killer. In "The Glass Rainbow" readers can savor the work of an author who it truly on top of his game.
Local group Sawgrass stops by WYSO to showcase their classic Bluegrass sound on Excursions with Niki Dakota.
Sawgrass formed in 2005 in the Dayton and has been performing all over the country since. In addition to touring, Sawgrass has been featured in the PBS documentary Music Farmers which was nationally broadcast. The group uses traditional instruments and vocal stylings, in addition to their excellent musicianship, to create high- energy Bluegrass that is fresh, yet classic.
Each of the four members of Jasper the Colossal says she brings a different style of music to the band from punk to British Pop to alternative metal. The band says they enjoy the energy and crowd interaction that comes with a live performance and are currently searching for a studio that can capture their live sound for a full length album.
Jasper the Colossal will perform live on Thursday, September 26th at Club Vex and as part of Dayton Music Fest on Oct 2nd.
