Not-Guilty Plea Entered In Central State Athlete's Slaying

Not-guilty pleas have been entered for a man charged with murdering a Central State University football player outside a nightclub in Dayton.

Thirty-year-old Jason Shern is charged with fatally shooting 21-year-old Kordero Hunter on Sept. 23. A judge entered a not-guilty plea Thursday for Shern on the murder charge and on felonious assault and weapons charges. Shern stood mute as the pleas were entered.

Dayton to Paint Itself as 'Immigrant-Friendly'

Officials have given unanimous approval to Dayton's "immigrant-friendly" plan aimed at bolstering a shrinking population.

Dayton Mayor Gary Leitzell read a statement during Wednesday's city commission meeting saying the Welcome Dayton program is not about harboring illegal immigrants or drawing them into the city. He says the focus instead is on treating all people kindly, fairly and humanely.
